John Martyn Memorial School celebrates Basant Panchmi and Music Competition
Today was celebration time in John Martyn Memorial School. The whole school assembled to celebrate Basant Panchmi and inter-house music competition. Children clad in yellow, the spring colour, came in a procession singing ‘oh re grihe baso….’ to set the tone of Basant Panchmi.
‘Saraswati Vandana’ was the theme for the music competition. Agni house won the John Martyn Memorial Music trophy. They sang ‘Maa Saraswati Sharde’ and won the trophy. “Goddess Lakshmi follows elder sister Goddess Saraswati”, said Dr. Dhirender Sharma as he handed over the Trophy, “You children focus on your studies and develop your talents”. Mr. Chandan Lal Poddar, our judge, appreciated the talent of all the participants and suggested that we pay more attention to the pitch and rhythm. Our Managing trustee Mr. Banerji, Trustee Ms. Neelu Khanna, Dr. Dhirender Sharma, Ms. Nimmi Sharma and parents were present on the occasion.
This rolling trophy is very special as it is a personal memento of John Martyn sir. In 1966, when he retired as the Doon School’s Headmaster, Hyderabad house had gifted this violin to him. Our Trustee Dilsher Singh Virk sir has donated this to our school.
